Eos Energy and Unico have formed a partnership to develop next-generation energy storage systems, marking a significant step in the expansion of U.S.-made clean energy technology. Announced on October 6 2025, the alliance seeks to enhance efficiency and reliability in grid-scale batteries while reinforcing domestic manufacturing.

Pennsylvania-based Eos Energy produces zinc-based batteries designed as a safer, longer-duration alternative to conventional lithium-ion systems. The company’s technology is recyclable, nonflammable and suited for storing renewable power such as solar and wind energy.

Unico, headquartered in Franksville, Wisconsin, will supply high-efficiency DC-to-DC converters under a five-year agreement. These components will manage energy flow within Eos’s systems to improve performance and lifespan.

The two companies aim to offer a fully U.S.-built storage solution that aligns with the federal government’s push to expand local clean technology production. Their initiative comes as federal incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act reward domestically sourced components in renewable projects.

“By integrating both design and manufacturing within the United States, Eos and Unico are positioning themselves to take advantage of policy support while reducing dependence on imported materials,” said an industry analyst.

Analysts view the collaboration as part of a shift in the energy storage market toward comprehensive system optimization — combining battery chemistry, control systems and localized supply chains.

The partnership faces challenges, including scaling production and competing with established lithium-ion suppliers abroad. Yet growing demand for long-duration storage in the U.S. power grid could provide new opportunities for domestic manufacturers.

Eos and Unico say the joint effort could contribute to lower system costs, improved grid stability and greater resilience in the U.S. energy sector. If successful, the collaboration could strengthen the nation’s industrial base as it transitions toward a low-carbon economy.
